What is comment sentiment analysis?
Comment sentiment analysis is the automatic detection of the emotional tone behind a comment, usually classified as positive, negative or neutral, in order to gauge audience reaction at scale.
Sentiment tells you how people feel; intent tells you what they want. For lead generation the second question matters more — 'this looks expensive' and 'what does this cost' are both about price, but only one is a buying signal. Sentiment alone would treat them as the same negative-ish remark and file them together, which is how commercial questions end up sitting in the wrong queue. Put simply, sentiment is a content metric and intent is a revenue metric: a channel can look healthy in a sentiment dashboard while every buying question in it goes unanswered for a week, which is roughly how long it takes a prospect to shortlist someone else.
Key characteristics
Shows whether a launch, pricing change or redesign was received well across a large comment volume.
Handles thousands of comments without anyone reading them one by one.
Tone does not distinguish a buyer from a critic, so it cannot prioritize leads on its own.
Together they answer both how someone feels and what they want, which is what routing decisions need.
FAQ
Is sentiment the same as intent?
No. Sentiment measures tone; intent measures purpose. A polite question can be high intent, and a negative comment can still be a lead worth answering.
Should I track both?
If you care about pipeline, track intent first and use sentiment for content and launch feedback.
Does VocLens do sentiment?
VocLens focuses on intent labeling and routing, because intent is what determines whether a comment becomes a lead.
